Pritchards Island operates year round, except for the months of December and January. Reservations for overnight stays can be made by any college/university academic or research group. Family groups and community organizations are welcome to reserve day trips to Pritchards Island.
Family Groups and Community Organizations
A day trip to Pritchards Island is an excellent opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Sea Islands first hand. Group visits include boat transportation to and from Pritchards Island, presentations on the history and ecology of Pritchards Island, and a walking tour of the various habitats and sea turtle nesting grounds. Loggerhead Sea Turtles (
Caretta caretta) start nesting on the beaches of Pritchards Island in May and the eggs continue to hatch until late October. The summer sea turtle nesting season is the most popular time, so interested groups should submit a
Reservation request form as soon as possible. Pritchards Island is an undeveloped wilderness environment, so all visitors must be at least 7 years old and are required to submit a
Liability Release Waiver prior to boarding. Please email

University/College Academic or Research Groups
Pritchards Island is the ideal field laboratory to conduct research or teach college students about the various Sea Island ecosystems. Academic or Research groups sponsored by a college or university are welcome to visit Pritchards Island for day trips or overnight stays. Day trips can be reserved for groups of up to 30 people. The dorm facility can accomodate 12 overnight visitors during the May 15-August 15 season, and 18 people during the remaining year (August 15-December 15, February 1-May 15). Equipment and/or vehicles to support your research or academic agenda can be reserved as well. The facilities comes equiped with wireless internet, full kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and a large dining/conference room. Each bedroom has one bathroom and accomodates 6 visitors. The conference room has audio/visual equipment available for meetings and presentations. Interested groups should submit a
