ABOUT USCB

The University:  University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is a baccalaureate degree granting partner of the University of South Carolina system serving the southeast coast of Georgia and South Carolina.  USCB students pursue baccalaureate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences and in the professions and directly access USC master’s degree programs.   The university’s two campuses, located on the waterfront in historic Beaufort, SC and at the gateway to Hilton Head, SC, serve a diverse student body of nearly 1400.  USCB’s program of civic engagement includes extensive community education and outreach programs and unique partnerships with the industries and leadership organizations in the region. 

The University of South Carolina Beaufort has one of the oldest traditions of higher education in the nation, dating to the 1795 charter of the original Beaufort College.  In 1959 Beaufort campus of the University of South Carolina offer USC courses at the original Beaufort College site on waterfront in Beaufort’s historic downtown.   In June 2002, USCB was granted four-year status by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and in 2004 USCB was accredited as a Level II baccalaureate degree granting university.  Classes at the new 200 acre “gateway to Hilton Head” campus, began in August 2004 and student campus apartments opened in 2005.  The state's newest and fastest growing four-year university, USC Beaufort brings over 200 years of regional commitment to higher education to the 21st century.
