Chancellor's Welcome
Welcome to the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
We invite you to learn more about us by browsing our website or coming for a visit. The website offers a wealth of information about our academic majors, minors, concentrations and certificate programs. It will introduce you to our faculty and students. It will enable you to explore our campuses and guide you on a voyage of discovery through our extraordinary coastal region, an area that extends from colonial Charleston down through the Sea Islands to historic Savannah.
At USCB, we offer small classes, individual attention and support in the form of personalized tutoring in an atmosphere that fosters diversity and achievement. Our faculty graduated from or taught at some of America’s premier institutions of higher learning. Our professors inspire and encourage our students to excel in academics and engage in fellowship.
The University of South Carolina Beaufort is one university serving students on two campuses. There’s the Hilton Head Gateway Campus near beautiful Hilton Head Island and the Historic Beaufort Campus on the waterfront in the Historic District of Beaufort. Our prime campus locations afford easy access to two of the nation’s oldest cities as well as an international resort destination. Then there are beaches, creeks, cycling paths, hiking trails, tennis courts, golf courses and both fresh-water and deep-sea fishing.
Take a few minutes to become acquainted with our on-campus, suite-style student apartments. They offer a higher level of comfort than traditional student housing while providing an ideal learning environment. New apartments for upperclassmen opened in the fall of 2011. Our student body is drawn from many states and nations as well as the islands and neighborhoods within our region. Perhaps they’ve been lured by a rich learning and living environment that attracts writers, artists, techies, academics and students who, given the freedom to live and work anywhere in the world, have chosen the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Our students tell us they like to learn where the livin’ is easy.
Thanks to our unique location, USCB students have access to wonderful research and study opportunities in Gullah and native cultures as well as historical, geographical, ecological and marine-research settings. Internship opportunities are available at world-class resorts in our area along with regional businesses, schools and nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of our diverse population.
As participants in the Sun Conference, affiliated with the NAIA, our Sand Shark teams engage in baseball, cross country, golf, women’s soccer, softball, and track and field competition.
We believe we offer something for every student—challenging academic programs, a comfortable living environment, access to centuries-old architecture and a mild climate. Come join us. Take advantage of the exciting learning opportunities at USCB.
Sincerely,
Jane T. Upshaw
