This facility will house the USCB hospitality management program including undergraduate education, a center for the hospitality industry and executive education, a teaching and learning facility for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and a civic gathering place and resource for the community. Construction will begin soon and the facility will open in the fall of 2018.

"The University of South Carolina Beaufort is continuing a 30-year partnership with Hilton Head Island, with the groundbreaking marking a significant milestone in our history, and we can't be more pleased," said Chancellor Al Panu. "I am delighted that we have so many of our wonderful partners at the groundbreaking today that helped make this dream a reality. We know that this partnership with the Island will be impactful and transformative for our region."

Through key partnerships with the Town of Hilton Head Island, Beaufort County, the Beaufort County School District, the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Hilton Head Public Service District, this innovative idea is coming to fruition.

Local industry leaders have been partners with USCB for many years providing learning opportunities for USCB students. They will now benefit even more during the shoulder seasons and winter for students to fill key roles in both large enterprises and entrepreneurial businesses on the Island. Students are working all summer in the industry as well, gaining leadership experience and paying for their education.

The facility will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, a demonstration kitchen, beverage laboratory, fabrication laboratory and classroom for distance education. This campus is also a key partner in Palmetto College, the USC online education provider.

In addition, USCB faculty have demonstrated their intellectual contributions to the hospitality industry on the Island, from market research with guests to student leadership at key events. Also, student projects have helped the Island think more deeply about how to communicate its benefits to the next generation of guests and retirees in a digital age.
