WHEN CAN I BE ADVISED?

New freshmen: You must attend Orientation to be advised. To find out more about orientation, visit the Orientation Information page: http://www.uscb.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/after-you-are-accepted/index.html

New transfer students: Once you have received an acceptance letter from the Admissions Office and a copy of the DARS report (showing transfer credits) you are eligible to meet with an Academic Advisor.

WHO IS MY ADVISOR?

Every student at USCB will be assigned an academic advisor based on major and the number of credit hours completed.

All freshmen are assigned to a First Year Advisor.

Transfer students will have a First Year Advisor assigned IF they have earned fewer than 30 credit hours (or fewer than 45, if the chosen major is Hospitality or Business). If you fall into this category, please call (843) 208-8049 to set up an appointment for advising and have an advisor assigned.

Transfer students who bring in more than 30 credit hours (45 for Business & Hospitality majors) will be assigned a faculty advisor within his/her academic department. If you fall into this category, please click on the "Department Contact Info" tab at the right of your screen to find the person who can help you schedule an appointment with a faculty advisor.

If you have  been admitted to the Palmetto College Human Services program, please contact Erica Moore. She can be reached at mooreel@uscb.edu  or (843) 208-8054.

If you are in a military program (Associate of Arts or Science), please contact Les Brediger for advising. He can be reached at lbredige@uscb.edu or (843) 208-8149 or (843) 368-8211.

WHAT ARE PLACEMENT EXAMS?

Placement exams in English, Math and Foreign Language are offered each semester at no charge to students. These exams gives students the opportunity to jump ahead to advanced courses in areas in which they excel or receive additional assistance, usually in the form of a lab, for those who need a little extra attention.

Placement exams are required for all freshmen unless you have already fulfilled our two math, two English, and two foreign language course requirements with AP or IB credit, or college credit as part of dual-enrollment.

Placement exams are required for transfer students unless you have already fulfilled our two math, two English, and two foreign language course requirements with transfer credit.

Placement exams must be taken prior to orientation (if you're a freshman) or prior to enrolling in an English, math, or foreign language course (if you're a transfer). Any student who does not take the placement exams will be enrolled in the most basic, beginner levels of English, Math, and either Spanish or French.

Placement tests are located in Blackboard (blackboard.uscb.edu). You will need your network username and password to access Blackboard. To find your network username & password, follow these instructions.

To find out more about placement exams, please call (843)208-8033 or email placement@uscb.edu.
