USCB Welcomes Military Students
The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is committed to helping Tri-command area military personnel and their family members pursue a university degree. Course times and schedules are arranged with the military lifestyle in mind. Students can join the larger university community by choosing classes on campuses in historic Beaufort and at the gateway to Hilton Head Island.

USCB is a four year university with deep local roots and the resources of a major state university system. Our 200-acre South Campus boasts one of the most technologically advanced libraries on the East Coast– podcast lectures, virtual classrooms, interactive videoconferencing and collaborative computer labs enliven the learning environment. Our beautiful waterfront campus in historic Beaufort is the site of the founding of Beaufort College in 1795 and has offered University of South Carolina courses since 1959.
Students benefit from faculty student interaction in a personal setting; our average class size is 16. Full-time, on-site USCB faculty members are dedicated to student success. Military personnel and their families can take advantage of as much university campus life as they wish–by taking classes on campus and by joining in student clubs and activities.
Credit for Military Experience
Elective credit toward an associate degree may be awarded for educational experience in the military, such as recruit training, MOS schools and CLEP, Dantes and MCI correspondence courses. Credit for military experience is counted as elective credit.
The Associate Degrees
USCB's academic programs for military students lead to an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree. Students receive instruction and practice in effective oral and written communication, cultivate an understanding of the liberal and fine arts, and broaden their historical and cultural awareness. Students study the social and natural sciences, acquire technological and information literacy, and build skills in numerical and analytical reasoning.
The Bachelor's Degrees
Military students can complete an associate degree and continue directly into the coursework leading to a baccalaureate degree. Areas of study leading to a baccalaureate degree.
Benefits for Military Personnel and their Families
On Base Offices. USCB’s full-time Office of Military Programs, with locations on both the Air Station and Parris Island, helps students balance military and university life. USCB on-base staff assist prospective students with admissions, tuition assistance and transfer of credits. They are available to help with scheduling, registration and academic advising.
Scheduling to accommodate the demands of a military career. To better serve the schedules of military personnel, USCB offers five eight-week sessions each year. Classes begin in January, March, June, August and October.
USCB is a member of Service Members Opportunity Colleges (SOC), a consortium of colleges who work together to assist military students in finishing degrees if their studies are disrupted by a relocation or deployment.
