Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is USCB’s own chapter of the International English Honor Society. The Society’s mission is to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature studies, provide cultural and social stimulation on college campuses, promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities, support exemplary character and good fellowship among its members, and serve society by fostering literacy.
Our campus chapter provides leadership, scholarship, service, and professional (presentation and publication outlets, national internship programs) opportunities for its members. Every year, Sigma Tau Delta holds formal ceremonies for induction into the society, officer elections, and award recognition, organizes field trips to local events of literary interest and to annual conferences and conventions, hosts themed events for the chapter, department, faculty, or students university-wide, as well as designs and participates in fundraising and service-projects to benefit the Lowcountry community.
To qualify for induction into the society, students must meet the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of a “B” (3.0) average in English and general education courses.
- Have completed a minimum of three semesters of college work.
- Have taken a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature beyond the general education requirements (101/102).
