Jonathon Goebel received his MFA degree at Texas Tech University in 2003 and his B.S. in Art at the University of Southern Indiana. He currently resides in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where he maintains his private studio and serves the University of South Carolina Beaufort as Assistant Professor of Studio Art. In just two short years, Professor Goebel has added new art studios to USCB and created a Studio Art major for the university, which was implemented in August of 2009. He has received several awards for his artistic works and participated in numerous juried national and international exhibitions, invitational exhibits, solo-exhibitions, portfolios, workshops, and collections including: 30th Annual Paper in Particular, Southern Graphics Traveling Exhibition, Los Angeles Printmaking Society National Exhibition, Bradley International, Artspace National Juried Printmaking & Photography Exhibition, Colorprint USA, and the Amsterdam Whitney Chelsea Global Showcase Competition. Jonathon also serves on the Executive Board of the Southern Graphics Council and is confounder of the Bastards of Printmaking Society.
Lecturers
Amiri Geuka Farris received his Masters of Fine Art in Painting, with his B.F.A in Illustration and graphic design, from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Amiri’s academic appointments include Professor of Fine Arts Foundations and Graphic Design at Georgia Southern University, at the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, and Professor of Fine Arts, at Savannah State University. He is a recent addition at The University of South Carolina Beaufort where he teaches studio and fine arts. Artist Amiri Geuka Farris is known for his dynamic works of art. His works uses a social realist style combined with original imagery to create art that celebrates life and his contemporary experiences. Amiri’s works are full of exuberant color and intimate personal experiences. His deep engaging layers invite you to look deeper into the painting, where images and colors dance across the canvas in an energetic display of expression. His work has been exhibited in major venues nationally and internationally, from the US. Capital in Washington D.C., to Paris, France and St. Petersburg, Russia. Farris was named the 2008 Artist-of-the-Year at Historic Penn Center National Historic Landmark on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. He is a rising star destined to take his place among the great African American artists.
Roger L. Steele received his MFA from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1974. Since undergraduate days at Midwestern State University, in the 60’s, Steele has been in exhibitions across the country and internationally including Colorprint USA, Southern Graphics Traveling Exhibitions, Brooklyn Art Museum, and The Exchange Exhibition with the USSR. Some collections containing his work are The Library of Congress, Gibbes Art Museum, South Carolina Arts Commission, Corcoran Museum, and the Kate Skipworth Museum of Art. He has been involved with The Southern Graphics Council as Treasurer, Vice President, and Honorary Member of The Council, as well as having been a Board Member for the South Carolina Arts Commission. He has been a member of the art faculty of USCB since 1974.
