A Leadership Program for Future Teachers

to teach elementary grades in our public school systems.

Call Me MISTER Defined: A highly acclaimed national recruitment and support program designed to increase the
number of elementary school teachers with diverse backgrounds. Program participants are typically selected from
under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at risk communities. Due to the low number of
males who choose elementary grades teaching as a profession, especially minority males, the program is critical
for providing role models for young students of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. MISTER is an acronym for "Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models."
Call Me MISTER Vision: The University of South Carolina Beaufort is partnering with Clemson University to be part of a national network of universities who are encouraging more minority males to dedicate their lives to becoming elementary education teachers and administrative leaders. The program will contribute to the talent pool of excellent teachers by identifying and supporting young men who are "touching the future" by teaching children.
Call Me MISTER Benefits: Participants in this leadership program for future teachers will receive extensive mentoring, scholarship support and internship experiences that prepare them to succeed as teachers. With preparation and support from the Call Me MISTER program, USCB students will go on to pursue successful careers in the elementary schools of South Carolina.
Call Me MISTER Commitments: Students accepted into the program receive scholarship funding for four years and, in turn, commit to teach for four years in South Carolina elementary school.
Call Me MISTER Candidates: A successful candidate for Call Me MISTER possesses passion for teaching and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young children.
