USCB Community Service programming offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities and ways to give back to your community. Along with our student organizations Sand Sharks for Service, we have a volunteer database of over 60 organizations that are looking for students to help out. If you have a passion for service , and want to get involved please visit the Civic Engagement Coordinator in room 112 in the Campus Center.
Sand Sharks for Service (SSFS): Looking to volunteer and meet new people? Sand Sharks for Service is the way to go! SSFS is the community service organization on campus, dedicated to giving students a volunteer experience they will never forget. Key activities have included Service Saturdays (twice a month), the first USCB “Day of Service”, and a week of events to raise awareness for Domestic Violence month. SSFS has sent volunteers into numerous sites throughout the Beaufort-Jasper County area, including:
-Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse (CODA)
-Boys and Girls Clubs (Ridgeland, Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Jasper)
-Habitat for Humanity
-Senior Citizens of Savannah
Alternative Spring Break (ASB): ASB is an exciting leadership and service experience for students that takes place during USCb’s March vacation. The 2009-2010 ASB took place at Pritchards Island where students lived at a Sea Turtle research center, learning about the surrounding are and cleaning up the facility.
Volunteer Database: The USCB community service program features a volunteer database with over 60 organizations that ranges from volunteering with children at schools to working in the medical field spending time with animals. If you have an interest, we have an organization for you to work with.
