Frequently Asked Questions


Please find below a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding Commencement. 

  • How many people may I invite to the ceremony?
    As many as you like, however the ceremony is outside and limited seating is available. Many guests, except handicapped guests, will probably end up having to stand. Expect a crowd of 1,000-1,500 guests.

  • What can my guests bring to the ceremony?
    Guests may bring a small lawn chair. Coolers, umbrellas, and noise makers of any sort are not permitted. Service animals welcome. 

  • Do I need tickets for my guests to get into the ceremony?
    No, you do not need tickets to attend the ceremony. The only time your guests will need a ticket is if it ceremony is moved to the Sand Shark Recreation Center due to inclement weather.

  • What happens if it rains?
    In the event of inclement weather, USCB will announce it's decision to use the "rain plan" on the morning of May 4th via the USCB Website homepage, on 98.7 The River, and via student university email. The ceremony will be held in the Sand Shark Recreation Center. Only guests holding rain tickets will be permitted to enter the ceremony, a decision made based on the ruling of the Fire Marshal.   • What do I wear?
    Women are encouraged to wear a light colored dress or skirt with flat shoes or shoes with a low heel. Students will be walking for the equivalent of half of a mile and possibly through mud if it rained the day before. Feel free to bring two pairs of shoes if you feel the need to wear high-heels after the ceremony. Men are encouraged to wear black or khaki slacks and a light button-up shirt with a tie, and dress shoes. 

  • What is the Senior Celebration?
    The Senior Celebration is a gathering put on by Student Government Association, the Advancement department, and Student Life to celebrate your years of hard work. It's a way for the University to say thank you and congratulations.

  • Do I have to go to the Senior Celebration?
    No, but there will be food.

  • Can my parents and grandparents come to the Senior Celebration?
    Absolutely. Anyone is welcome to come to the celebration as long as they have purchased a ticket. Email James Duffy, Development Officer for more information: duffyja@uscb.edu

  • Where do I go when I first get there?
    Graduating students should arrive at 4:30 to the Science and Technology Building to prepare for Commencement.
