Inclement Weather Plan

 

In the event of  inclement weather, USCB Commencement will proceed on a 30 minute delayed schedule at Bluffton High School at 6:30 pm.

Should the outdoor commencement appear dangerous due to lightning from pop-up storms or not feasible due to heavy rain, USCB will  announce the decision to move to the inclement weather commencement plan Friday  morning—on the web at www.uscb.edu, on 98.7 The River and through university email. 

Guests are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for parking and seating.

Rain Plan Instructions:

 For Faculty/Staff:

Faculty and Staff should arrive to Bluffton High School no later than 4:30PM. Faculty parking is behind the gymnasium and enter through the Athletic Wing doors (see downloadable map). Faculty will robe in the locker rooms located in the Athletic Wing. 

 For Students:

Students should arrive to Bluffton High School no later than 4:30PM.  Students will park in the BHS faculty/staff parking lot, which is located to the right after the entrance.  Students should then report to the second and middle door on the right hand side of the building, leading into the academic wing, where they can then robe in rooms 401,402,403,425,426,427.  If you are carpooling with your guests, please drop them off at the front entrance of the school and then proceed to park in the faculty/staff parking lot and enter through the academic wing. 

 For Guests:

Please plan on arriving to Bluffton High School at least thirty minutes prior to commencement in order to allow adequate time for parking and walking to the ceremony venue.  Guests will park in the student parking lot, which is located to the left of the entrance. There will be additional parking at Bluffton Elementary and Middle Schools.  Guests will use the athletic wing entrance to enter BHS, which is located on the left hand side of the building.  If any of your guests require a handicapped entrance, please drop them off at the main entrance of BHS where they can then proceed through the atrium to the athletic wing.

From USCB Hilton Head Gateway campus:  Go east on HWY 278/Fording  Island Road toward Hilton Head Island for 4 miles.  Turn right on Buckwalter  Parkway and proceed for 3.5 miles.  Turn  left at H. E. McCracken Circle.  BLHS will be on your right.

From Hilton Head Island:  Go west on Hwy 278/Fording  Island Road.  Turn left at Buck Island Rd/State Rd S-7-29. After 1 mile, go right at Bluffton Parkway.  Proceed .5 miles and turn left at Mastres Parkway.  At the "T", turn  right onto  H. E. McCracken Circle.  BLHS  will be on your left.

Children 3 and under may be admitted to the inclement weather commencement without a ticket, if willing to sit in the lap of an adult.

However, we do not recommend bringing young children to the inclement weather commencement at Bluffton High School for the following reasons:
 
1. Long distance from parking lot to gymnasium and back to walk or carry a young child in poor weather.
 
2. Bleacher seating can be confining for young children.
 
3. Restrooms are a distance from the gym.
 
4. Guests will want to arrive at least 45 minutes to an hour early. The ceremony may last an hour and a half, and after the ceremony, it will most likely take quite a while for the crowd to disperse. This makes the entire event last almost three and a half hours, not including travel time to and from the site.
 
5. The ceremony is quite formal with long periods in which silence is required of the audience.
