Alternative Spring Break (ASB)

USCB Alternative Break is a program of the Office of Student Life that organizes transformational, immersion experiences for a select group of outstanding students.  Participants not only have the opportunity to serve with and in diverse communities, but also to learn about social issues and become lifelong active citizens.

Past ASB Trips

  • 2015: "Alternative Break Staycation" in the Lowcountry: Bluffton, Beaufort, Walterboro, and Hilton Head Island
  • 2014: New Orleans, LA
  • 2013: Atlanta, GA
  • 2012: Jacksonville, FL
  • 2011: Charleston, SC
  • 2010: Pritchard's Island, Beaufort, SC
This year’s “Staycation” will involve a focus on hunger and homelessness.  For six days, students will learn about and support the efforts of local human services organizations, including Backpack Buddies, Circle of Hope Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Neighborhood Outreach Connection, among others.  In the evenings, participants will attend community dinners and engage in reflection activities.  For instance, students will watch and discuss relevant documentaries on two occasions and converse with the local American Red Cross chapter’s Disaster Action Program Manager on another.  For more information about USCB’s Alternative Break program, please contact Danielle Breidung at dbreidung@uscb.edu
