USCB Department of Fine Arts Faculty Exhibition

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Sea Islands Center Gallery at the University of South Carolina Beaufort will present an exhibition featuring the work of the faculty of the Department of Fine Arts.
The opening reception will take place on Thursday, November 2 from 5-7 pm. Another reception will take place the following night on Friday, November 3 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm to welcome the South Carolina Art Education Association and First Friday attendees. The exhibit will be on view from November 2 through December 2, 2017.
The exhibition will feature a diverse collection of work from the faculty. Artists
include Joanna Angell, Topher Maraffi, Chris Robinson, Kim Keats, Laurie Lovell and
Work displayed includes ceramic sculptural pieces inspired by bird forms and textures, prints relating to themes of home and gender, mixed media digital prints that relate to the history of film and dance, sculptures created from natural objects such as trees and roots and meditative textural fabric two-dimensional pieces.
Maine Grid, a large print by new art department chair Chris Robinson, references his work in nanotechnology. Shapes of cardiac fibroblasts are digitally manipulated and enlarged with Newtonian scale natural textures, parodying rampant image manipulation in science.
