Criminology

Earn a Criminology Certificate at USCB

The Criminology & Law certificate uses a multidisciplinary approach by drawing coursework from across the university.

Students have the ability to tailor their learning experience to best meet their career goals while ensuring they receive an expansive background in the multiple disciplines involved in studying crime and the law and developing an understanding of the various professionals involved in these careers through 

• Policy
• Law enforcement
• Victims’ services
• Court and judicial practice
• Prisons, probation, and parole

Although this certificate is designed to meet the needs of students interested in careers in criminal justice, an understanding of criminology and law is important for those in a much broader range of career fields, including social services, education, healthcare, and business.

Students will select five courses (15 credits) from the following, no more than three of which can be in a single discipline:

• SOCY B323: Sociology of Deviant Behavior

Internship

Additionally, an internship in the major at a site relevant to criminological and/or legal practice is strongly encouraged and may be counted as one of the required five courses.

To begin earning a Criminology certificate, contact program coordinator Dr. Summer Roberts and complete the Declaration/ Change of Certificate form.
