Trips & Special Lectures

OLLI at USCB offers, each semester, a variety of travel opportunities, ranging from one-day motorcoach trips within a few hours of the University to international adventures with Road Scholar. These trips are open only to current OLLI at USCB members on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that trip fees are non-refundable after a specified date, unless a substitute is available on a waiting list.

Join some of our finest chefs as they cover a variety of topics that will enhance your knowledge of different cooking techniques and tantalize your taste buds with samples of the items they prepare. Chef Orchid will focus on grilling while Chef Andy shares some of his most trusted crowd pleasing recipes. Chef Chris Carge will tell you all about local oysters and how to prepare them and Chef Logan McManus will demonstrate sushi rolling techniques and share some rolls you can try at home!

Elizabeth Cobbs, New York Times Best Seller, author of her yet to be released book “The Tubman Command” will share her insight on Harriet Tubman and her time in the Lowcountry. We will paddle the Combahee River, as did Harriet Tubman, to get a sense of what she encounters while freeing slaves. Beaufort Kayak Tours will supply the instructors, kayaks, paddles, PFDs and a copy of the “The Tubman Command”, with an opportunity for Dr. Cobbs to personalize your copy.

Dr. Elizabeth Cobbs received her PH. D, from Stanford University, holds the Melberm G. Glasscock Chair at A and M University and Senior Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution. Her expertise on American History, World History and U.S. Foreign Relations is widely respected and often quoted.

Advanced technology, such as the Anecdata citizen science portal and a cutting-edge 3-D coastal inundation model, is being leveraged to facilitate strategic partnerships and effect resilience-building actions throughout our state.
