Psi Chi is the international honors society for psychology students. It has been around for almost 100 years and is endorsed by the American Psychological Association. There are over 1,100 chapters of Psi Chi around the world, and we created a chapter here at USCB in 2015.
Psi Chi is accredited by the Association of College Honors Societies (ACHS) and respected among professional ranks of all behavioral sciences. Psi Chi awards over $320,000 in awards and grants (including travel grants!) for undergraduate members, graduate members, and faculty advisors. The U.S. government accepts Psi Chi membership as one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level for numerous professional and technical occupations.
All members receive free access to three great publications: 1) Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research is a quarterly peer-reviewed publication found in both PsycINFO and EBSCO databases. The Journal actively publishes empirical research by Psi Chi students and faculty to foster and reward the scholarly efforts of psychology students. 2) Eye on Psi Chi magazine provides valuable articles by professionals and scholars about psychology, graduate school, career advice, and more. 3) Psi Chi Digest keeps members informed about Psi Chi news and opportunities.
If you wish to pursue graduate education in psychology, a career in psychology, or simply have a strong interest in psychology and would like some firsthand experience, then joining Psi Chi would be a great benefit to you. Because Psi Chi is an honor society for psychology, there are certain requirements that must be met in order to become a member. These requirements are:
- Be enrolled as a Psychology Major or Minor.
- Have completed at least 3 semesters (or equivalent) of college courses.
- Have completed at least 9 semester hours (or equivalent) of psychology courses.
- Have earned an overall minimum GPA of 3.2.
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in psychology courses.
- A one-time membership fee of $55.
