Counseling Services
Counseling services are available to USCB students as part of the network of support services provided by the Department of Student Development for the purpose of increasing student’s academic success and personal development through the promotion of health and wellness. Issues of depression, homesickness, anxiety and stress, sexual orientation and gender identity, substance abuse, eating disorders, time management, anger management, sexual assault, feelings of isolation and loneliness, as well as, other challenges may be addressed through counseling.
College is a unique time in a person’s life. Some students may be away from home
for the first time, some may be going back to school with the responsibility of a
family to support. The adjustments can be overwhelming for college students, but
there can also be new opportunities for emotional growth and maturity. College counseling
services are designed to assist students with addressing the difficulties they may
encounter as they go through a time of transition.

OPERATIONS FOR FALL 2020
The Counseling Center is open and serving students for Fall 2020. In accordance with
current professional recommendations for mental health services, we are providing
all services via telemental health for the Fall 2020 semester. Although a team of
counselors is on-campus, no in-person services will be provided except for emergencies
requiring safety assessments.

GREAT NEWS
Telemental health means that students have a wider range of counselors, groups, and workshops to choose from than they would typically (since campus of attendance is irrelevant to telemental health services.) Services provided through telemental health by the Counseling Center include intakes, individual counseling, and virtual walk-in’s.
**Recognizing that some students may need assistance in securing a confidential space
or technology (computer, internet) to participate in telemental health counseling,
we can provide space within the Counseling Center for you to engage in telemental
health services. Ask the counselor when you schedule your appointment to book the
confidential space in the office for your appointment. Like other space on campus,
you are asked to sanitize when you come into the space.
