USCB Public Television Show "Books by the River" Sweeps the U.S.

“Books by the River” is making waves—and USCB students and faculty are behind its success.
Now in its 4th season, this nationally distributed series is now carried by 76% of all public television channels in the U.S. The show is also in 88% of the country’s top 25 markets.
“Books by the River” is a tribute to Southern storytelling. Produced by USCB Communication Studies Associate Professor Dr. Caroline Sawyer and hosted by Holly Bounds Jackson of ETV Lowcountry, it features in-depth author interviews.
USCB students help bring each episode to life—gaining real-world experience in television production and content creation. For students pursuing careers in media, communications, writing, or the arts, Books by the River is a unique opportunity to apply classroom learning to a professional-level production. It’s also a chance to work side-by-side with experienced faculty and industry professionals, gaining mentorship and portfolio-worthy experience along the way.
With accolades including a Southeast Emmy nomination, a Silver Telly Award, and multiple Communicator Awards, “Books by the River” is more than a show—it’s a showcase of Southern voices and student talent.
Watch “Books by the River “ on PBS.org or stream free on the PBS App (iPhone, Android, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV & more).
To keep this important work going, USCB is conducting a fundraising drive to support Books by the River. Tax deductible gifts help fund the technical equipment, set production, student stipends, and broadcast costs that make each episode possible.
