A record 764 new first-year and transfer students started classes this week at the University of South Carolina Beaufort.

USCB’s unofficial fall 2025 enrollment is an all-time high of 2,226 students, as of August 20. This year’s entering class is 66.7% female and 40% students of color; 81% percent of the entering  class is from South Carolina.

Dr. Al M. Panu, USCB’s chancellor, launched the 2025-26 school year at Opening Convocation on August 18. It was the university’s 22nd convocation ceremony.

Panu told the new students that they are beginning their journey of purpose.

“On this journey, you will acquire critical thinking skills that will help you excel academically and prepare you to reach your highest potential in life,” he said. “We will prepare you to make significant contributions to your community and the world for the rest of your life.”

USCB alum Danielle Cobb ’24, a multimedia journalist with WSAV TV in Savannah, Ga., delivered the keynote address.

“Don’t ever limit yourself to just one thing,” she advised. “Not one major. Not one career path. Not one version of who you think you have to be. College is your time to explore, to grow, to change—and maybe, like me, to discover something even better than what you originally planned.”
