Job Experience Q&A: Lydia Gattozzi - Communication Studies

Where do you work?
I work for Bananas Television (BTV), the broadcast network that the Savannah Bananas use to stream all of their games for free on YouTube. I started in May and will work through October when their championship series is.
What do you do?
I collaborate with the production team to execute live broadcasts and contribute to the creative and technical direction of content, gaining hands-on experience across the full production process. I operate professional broadcast cameras during live games, run the score-bug and book to assist with live stats and keep the broadcast accurate and smooth, plus I do a full breakdown of camera and broadcast equipment.
What’s one surprising thing you have learned?
How many different pieces go into a successful broadcast surprised me. If even one person does not do their job correctly, it will affect multiple parts of the broadcast.
Why did you want to work there?
I chose to work there because it is a great opportunity so close to our campus. They are very well-known, and it is exciting to have on my resume. I considered working at WSAV TV, too.
How did USCB help you get this job?
My fabulous advisor Dr. Caroline Sawyer helped put me in positions to boost my resume and portfolio so that it would catch the eye of different employers.
Why do you think this kind of work experience is important?
It gives you real world experience and helps in building a strong resume to better prepare you for jobs after school.
What is the weirdest and/or most fun thing that has happened to you on the job?
I met (celebrity plastic surgeon) Dr. Miami, which was super random and a funny environment to see him in. Also, after home tournaments, we do a batting practice for any staff or workers who want to stay and hit on the field with the lights on! It's is a super cool experience and being able to be in the same POV as the players is pretty unique.
