Danisha Moise graduated from the University of South Carolina Beaufort this month with a vision for her future in health care—and the preparation she gained as a USCB Honors student has positioned her for success.

Danisha majored in Biology at USCB and wants to become a physician assistant. She'll spend the next year working in two different health settings and applying to physician assistant programs at USC Columbia School of Medicine, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) North Greenville University and Presbyterian College.

“I've always wanted to go into health care. I'm attracted to being a physician assistant because it's collaborative. You're not alone making decisions for a patient, you're part of a team,” she said.

Her time at USCB strengthened that calling. USCB's Beaufort College Honors program classes helped her build strong relationships with professors who encouraged her academic growth and guided her toward opportunities that would enhance her preparation for PA school. Hands-on fieldwork in Dr. Brugler’s biology courses deepened her understanding of natural systems and strengthened her scientific foundation—skills essential for advanced study in medicine.

USCB also provided avenues for Danisha to develop compassion, leadership, and real-world experience working with patients, especially children.  She volunteered on alternative spring break trips at Give Kids the World Village in Florida, supporting families of children with critical illnesses.

Studying abroad in Summer 2025 at Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poland broadened her cultural competency—an important skill for providers who will care for diverse patient populations. Scholarships and stipends from the Honors Program helped make the international experience possible.

Leadership became another defining part of her preparation. Beginning sophomore year, she served as an orientation leader and later became the orientation lead for the Beaufort campus, mentoring new students and refining the communication and interpersonal skills vital to patient-centered care.

An internship at the MedEx Academy in Greenville was a huge step that helped her define her career goals. At this program sponsored by Prisma Health,  students learn about various healthcare roles through classroom learning and shadowing, simulation labs, and patient interaction.

After graduation, she will continue working as a patient care technician at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she is already employed. And at an organization that works with autistic children, she's been offered a position with the opportunity to become a registered behavioral technician through board certification. These experiences will further strengthen her clinical background.

Danisha plans to specialize in pediatrics but said she's also interested in other areas of medicine.

With her compassion, determination, and preparation gained as an outstanding undergraduate, Danisha is ready to become a force for good in the world.
