Emma Barnes, MFA
Drawing & Painting Instructor
801 Carteret St
Beaufort, SC 29902

My name is Emma Barnes, and I am a multi-disciplinary artist from Islandton, South
Carolina. Before stepping into my role as a Studio Art Instructor here at USCB, I
was a Painting Adjunct and High School Art teacher.
In 2014, I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Painting
& Printmaking and a double major in Gender Studies. I received my MFA in Painting,
Drawing and Photography at the Alfred University International Düsseldorf program
in 2022.
In my creative research I explore multiple materials including plaster, paint and
photography. I often navigate these mediums through the lens of low country landscapes,
rural upbringing, and southern motifs. I produce and exhibit work around the country
including MUSC Healing Arts Program, Lake City’s Art Fields Festival, Emrose Projects,
the Arts Center of Greenwood, Florida Mining Gallery, Michigan Medicine Gallery, Montgomery
College Gallery in Maryland, 701 CCA in Columbia and Redux Art Center in Charleston.
