Kelly McCombs is a Senior Instructor and course developer in both face to face and online settings for USCB and Palmetto College for the following courses: nutrition; food science; food, hospitality and culture; food safety and ServSafe; restaurant food production management. She is also an academic advisor for Hospitality Management, and serves as a nutrition consultant for USCB Athletics. She led the 2-semester Beaufort County Food Swamps and Food Deserts Inventory 2018-19 QEP/Students Connected study. 

McCombs graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Human Ecology, Dietetic focus and a M.S. in Human Nutrition with Dietetic Internship. While in graduate school, she also worked as a clinical nutrition and food safety research assistant and teaching assistant.  

Previous jobs held include NC State University Extension faculty; diabetes educator for inpatient and outpatient hospital programs; consulting dietitian; renal dietitian; long term care dietitian; and health promotion dietitian for a 6-county regional health department.  

McCombs is active in a variety of professional organizations and associations, including the Tourism Leadership Council of Savannah; Beaufort Memorial Hospital Diabetes Program Advisory Board; Eat Smart Move More South Carolina; Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists; and the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior.
