Chelsea Jimenez, PhD
Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies
One University Boulevard

I am an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Department of English, the Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies at USCB. Prior to teaching at USCB, I was an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a certified early childhood educator in South Carolina.
I earned my B.A. in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis in Urban Education and research from the University of South Carolina Columbia in 2019. During my time at USC Columbia, I participated in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, which began my journey in educational research.
In 2025, I earned my Ph.D. in Urban Education, and a certificate in African Studies, from the University of Pittsburgh. More recently, my research has been focused on Black studies, history, sociolinguistics, and literacy. While my previous research largely engaged K-12 education, my more recent research and publications span across K-12 and higher education, as well as larger societal implications as it relates to the languages and literacies of the African diaspora.
My teaching at USCB focuses on a range of topics including Interdisciplinary Research Methods, race and gender, race and language, cultural historiography, and Beyond the Classroom experiential learning.
