Sand Sharks Value Their International Experiences
Whether they've studied in Europe, Asia, the Carribbean or elsewhere in the world, USCB students feel that their time abroad was life-changing. Study abroad experiences are much more than trips — they're the start of students' lives as global citizens.
San Salvador, Bahamas
"Being part of the team behind "Tide Talk" in the Bahamas was something I never expected,
but it quickly became one of the most exciting parts of the trip. During our Maymester
at the Gerace Center, we were all energized by the idea of taking our podcast international
and getting to record an episode there made it feel real. From snorkeling to learning
the island’s history, every experience was incredible, but collaborating on that episode
and hearing the stories from the locals was easily the highlight of my study abroad."

Seoul, Korea

"Wearing Hanbok is something the Korean government wants people who visit the palaces to do, because Koreans weren't allowed to wear it during Japanese colonial rule. I felt good wearing it because it meant that they're not afraid to share their culture with other people."

Poznan, Poland

"Assisting with a biopsy and observing a surgery PUMS [Poznan University of Medical Sciences] were two things that made my time in Poland incredible. Experiencing both further inspired me to become a doctor and deepened my appreciation for the medical field and the community of individuals dedicated to helping others. This is a community I hope to be part of one day."
Lexie Castro, Biology ('26)

"Doing the PUMS summer program changed my perspective by allowing me to not only observe how healthcare differs in another country but also how another culture lives. I really enjoyed living in the dorms, taking their tram systems, and touring Old Town Poznan. After coming back to America, the biggest takeaway I had was to enjoy the little moments. No matter if it's taking a walk or just going to the park, there's something beautiful in enjoying your own city. This is something I learned from Poznan."
Danisha Moise, Biology ('25)
Paris, France

"Going to France with USCB was my first time leaving the U.S. It was an opportunity that my parents felt comfortable with for my first time abroad. Dr. A. knows Paris so well, and she taught us to navigate the city while being aware and careful. This helped me develop the confidence to go abroad again on my own!"

International Students Are Immersed in Campus Life
USCB is proud to welcome international students from many countries each year. Their experiences as undergraduate students, student athletes and graduate students are part of the vibrant tapestry of life on the university's Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island campuses.
International students on USCB's women's soccer team share their experiences in this Senior Capstone video project by a student athlete from Sweden.

"At USCB, I was able to finsh my bachelor's on time and complete my master's at the
age of 22. Work I did with object detect testing for my master's helped me land a
full-time job before I even graduated. I am grateful to God and to USCB that things
worked out so well."
