Greetings from the Provost & EVCAA
In each of our core missions—teaching, public service and research—the University of South Carolina Beaufort is achieving unprecedented levels of excellence.
Chartered in 1795 and boasting one of the oldest traditions of higher education in the nation, the University of South Carolina Beaufort is recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education as one of the fastest growing public undergraduate universities in the country. Accompanying the growth, the university has broadened its academic profile to include the addition of graduate programming, honors education, the new Hilton Head Island campus dedicated to Hospitality Management, and increases in international partnerships and opportunities, including designation as a Top Fulbright Producing Institution for two consecutive years (2019-2020 and 2020-2021).
The University has made experiential (hands-on) learning a top priority for all students, and in recent years has achieved exponential growth in the areas of undergraduate research, study abroad and internships. Through initiatives such as “Students Connected” and Student Research & Scholarship Day, experiential learning has become a hallmark of the USCB academic experience.
We provide education and training that prepare our workforce, from healthcare, human services, and data science to managing our nationally renowned restaurants, hotels and resorts. Our faculty are performing medical research, protecting our coastal ecosystems, and helping to improve health outcomes in the region. Our students give back to the region through project-based service learning. Our alumni are the area’s educators and hospitality professionals.
Our students may study on one or more of our three distinctive and picturesque campuses. The majority of our academic programs are offered on our modern, spacious Bluffton campus. Hospitality Management majors are trained at our new state-of-the art campus on Hilton Head Island, an international tourism destination. Our downtown Beaufort campus is integral to the arts, music, and theater scene in the Lowcountry, and is home to Beaufort College Honors, our experiential-based residential learning community.
In my role as Provost and EVCAA, I work closely with Chancellor Al M. Panu and units across campus to build on the institution’s momentum. I welcome your thoughts for advancing our University and hope you won’t hesitate to reach out if my staff or I can be of assistance to you.
